The long awaited statue of Olaus Jeldness has been installed at the corner of Columbia Avenue and Washington Street in downtown Rossland. Everyone agrees that he looks very dignified and yet has the spirit that has brought so many of us to live in the Mountain Kingdom.
The Spirit of Red is grateful for all the help we have received from local businesses and the City of Rossland to overcome the problems we faced when Olaus arrived from China with a broken ski pole and cracked skis.
We expect he will be with us for many years to come and spur interest in the both the mining and skiing history of our community.
